Negros Now Included in the 11th Bright Leaf Agriculture Journalism Awards

Bacolod City and Negros Island is now included in the Bright Leaf Agriculture Journalism Awards of the Philip Morris-Fortune Tobacco Corporation’s (PMFTC) social
responsibility program.

This is the 11th leg of the program that started in Luzon 10 years ago.

The awards program is aimed at giving focus on the developments and issues regarding agriculture in the country involving the media practitioners, according to Didet
Danguilan-Santiago, communications manager of PMFTC.

There are ten categories that the media from the print, broadcast and TV networks may choose in participating.

Agriculture story of the year; Tobacco story of the year; agriculture photo of the year; all will receive P50,000.00 cash price each, plus trophy and free trip to Asian countries; also best agriculture TV program/segment; best agriculture radio program/segment; best agriculture news story-national; best agriculture news story regional; and best agriculture feature story-regional, will receive P25,000.00 cash prize each plus trophies and free trip to Asian countries.

Entries can be in English of Pilipino Language, or any dialect provided supported with English translation. Deadline of submission of entries is on September 1, 2017. Visit Home or email at brightleaf2017 @gmail.com.

According to Victorico Nabor, Executive Assistant to the Regional Executive Director of the Department of Agriculture Region VI, the media has been responsible in dessiminating vital information to the fisheries and agriculture stakeholders because inadequate agricultural technicians of the office to handle the jobs. Without the media, agricultural extension workers would find difficulty in informing the farmers on the new technology they need.”

While Cong. Greg Gasataya as guest of honor during the press briefing yesterday hopes that Bacolod media would be part of the awardees in the 11th Bright Leaf agriculture
