Last Call For Entries To The 8th Bright Leaf Awards

September 1, 2014

The 8th Bright Leaf Agriculture Journalism Awards is moving to the judging phase.  The deadline for submission of entries is on Sept. 10, 2014!

Launched in 2007, the Bright Leaf Awards honors the work of print, TV, photo and radio journalists all over the country aired or published from Sept. 1, 2013 to Aug. 31, 2014.

The competition is looking for stories and photos aired or published that best depict the state of Philippine agriculture today whether it be about best practices, latest innovations, environmental care, safety, crop sustainability and other relevant issues.

As part of it’s search for the best of the best, the organizers of the 8th Bright Leaf Awards have travelled all over the Philippines meeting with journalists and invite them personally to submit their entries.  Roadshow events were held at Lucena City, Cebu, Davao, Baguio, Dagupan, Vigan, Naga and Cagayan de Oro.  Attendees were excited to hear about the cash prizes to be given away including an Asian trip.

A panel of judges composed of award-winning journalists, photographers, artists and broadcasters as well as from the academe and government executives will be choosing this year’s winners. There are 10 awards up for grabs: Agriculture Story of the Year; Tobacco Story of the Year; Best Television Program or Segment; Best Radio Program or Segment; Agriculture Photo of the Year; Tobacco Photo of the Year; Best Regional News story; Best National News Story; Best Regional Feature News Story; and Best National Feature Story.  As well as the The Oriental Leaf Award, given to journalists who have won five Bright Leaf Awards in any category.

Participation in The Bright Leaf Awards is free of charge. Contestants can submit as many stories in any of the categories but no story can be entered into more than one category.

Entries may be in English or any of the Philippine regional dialects.  For entries that are not in English, participants are required to provide an English translation.
